The Animator and the Seat is FINALLY finished!
Length: 2:08

If DeviantArt's download is going to slow for you, try it on Youtube:

I've spent more than a year slaving over this bad boy, so I hope you enjoy. This is my senior thesis for graduation at Ringling College of Art and Design. (yes, they changed their name.) Currently, The Animator and the Seat has been accepted into the Siggraph 2007 Animation Theater and is being judged for other film festivals.

Let me know how much you hate it!

wow eric i'm just blown away with this one.... the animation is so smooth, the layout is awesome even the lighting is fantastic, the textures are great, and besides that it enjoyable you should submit this thing to the nicktoons network animation festival, it's still accepting entries until the 1st of june............ I'm sure this thing could win.............. also the character is awesome is great he's what other animators can relate to (including myself) the scripting to this must have been interesting to work with............. also I just love the writing to this it's got to be hands down the best 3d animation I have seen this year.......... hey if you don't mind my asking what was the final poly count on this as a whole like the entire film.......... anyways take care I'm still waiting for part 2 of merry melony man......... well later and again really awesome job with this man i praise you for your 3d kick assness!
and your animating skills!!!!!!!

Booya 7.0: the industry standard for 2D-on-3D animation. :D

Bravo, and congratulations! Everything was wonderful; the only off thing I noticed about it was that Chunk seemed a little wall-eyed at times. Other than that, it was great! I'm sure you must have sympathized with your main character while working on this!

This is beautifully done. Really nice work. You really got a lot of character out of both the chair and the main character. I love the set design too. Just really really great stuff.

I wish my stuff looked that good in college. ;) Heck, I wish it looked that good now. Good luck with it in festivals. I'm sure it will do well.

....wow.

Okay, first off, amazing details and coloring and lighting and all that technical stuff. I really liked the little dancing bear and the way the main character hated him. Its so true how that happens. But I must say I didn't start laughing until he looked over the book shelf and saw more chairs just chillin. That was hilarious and I don't remember seeing that in the storyboard. It was just so random and like "wtf?"

And then the way he sounded, it reminded me of Chris from Family Guy. I know that was probably you doing the voice, but freaking hilarious otherwise.

And just the overall acting of both characters...I mean... Jesus. You make me realize how much I got to work.
If you don't win in Siggraph, at least best character animation, well damn. You better be beaten by a 30 year professional. Best of luck to you.

I've been watching your progress for over a year and I can't tell you how much anticipation I had built up to finally see this. I realllllllllllly etc etc enjoyed this. The animation is SO smooth and has a lot of charater to it. The character and the chair(s) have a great deal of expression that is very refreshing. The music is really great too, fits very nicely and hits all the right notes at all the right moments. Sound effects are nice, clean and crisp - did you make your own sounds? The story is very self contained and complete. Only one little thing threw me off and that was the character's voice. I'll admit, it defintely wasn't something I was expecting and was very humorous, but at times it just didn't seem fitting. Either way, that is such a minor thing. You brought this whole animation together beautifully from start to finish and I really enjoyed it. Great job - you must be so happy you can finally sit back and relax for a bit. :+fav:

Hahaha! Awesome man! I've been waiting for this one ever since I caught a glimpse of the 2D version on Newgrounds.

The lighting, realistic bounce nuances on both the chair and the animator, and the shots all most excellent ^^

Well done, I have a hunch most companies would be hard pressed to find better graduate work.

Most certainly better than my Senior thesis ever was. It's very well boarded and amazingly animated. Wonderful job!

Hehe... stupid bears. I know that feeling exactly (which was why all my animal characters kept being injured by the end of my animation).

Damn, you know what's most impressive to me is the facial expression. His moans and whimpers fits so freakin well with his reactions to the chair. You did an amazing job! I'm gonna try and go to Siggraph this year, it's in San Diego right?

Pfft, I wish i had a chair that massaged my back for me. That guy doesn't know what he's got!!!
